Ayanna Pressley and Ayaka Konno

Ayanna Pressley is a policymaker and activist. Ayanna became the first black woman elected to Congress for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts when she was elected as the 7th Congressional District Representative on Nov. 6, 2018. Ayanna is of the opinion that the voices from those who suffer the most are those that ought to influence the policy. Ayanna was raised in Cincinnati, raised within Chicago and is the only child of a single mother and father with a criminal history. Her mother Sandra Pressley worked as a tenants rights organizer, and she encouraged her to be a civic-minded person. Ayanna has been a part of the reason due to her mother's dedication to social activism and development of communities, has been well conscious of the vital role government can play to help families and communities.
